Cultural and artistic project “Vyshyvanka – Code of the Nation”
Our project “United For You” joined the cultural and artistic project “Vyshyvanka – Code of the Nation” as a partnership
On the occasion of Vyshyvanka Day, the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve, in partnership with the Free Thread social workshop, presented a special project called Vyshyvanka – The Nation’s Code.
Vyshyvanka has a long history. In each region of Ukraine, embroidered clothing has its own peculiarities: characteristic ornaments and motifs, the most common colors, cut and embroidery techniques.
Each embroidered shirt is a unique code of the region. To popularize the folk costume of Kyiv Polissia and Middle Naddniprianshchyna, replicas of embroidered shirts were created based on samples of old shirts from the museum collections of the Vyshhorod Historical and Cultural Reserve.
The craftsmen of the Vilna Nitka social enterprise made a modern interpretation of traditional Ukrainian clothing based on old shirts.
The collection of newly created embroidered shirts was demonstrated by well-known public and cultural figures: Mila Nitich, Kristina Basok, Kateryna Potlova, Kristina Koval, Natalia Mukhina, Lilia Bolbat, Tetiana Repede, Maryna Hanitska, Taras Yanitsky, Vasyl Kotlyarov, Roman Matsyuta, Andriy Kucher, Oleh Serbin, Ihor Stepurin, and Volodymyr Shchybria.
The images were complemented by Kateryna Potlova’s jewelry.
“We recreated some of the shirts exactly, and with some of them we experimented with the cut and colors,” notes the Free Thread.
