Jamala raises over UAH 2 million for Ukraine during her first North American tour

Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar origin Jamala has completed her first tour of North America.
The program of the Like A Bird tour, which the singer presented to the American and Canadian audiences, includes materials from different years of her career in a “special electronic interpretation”.
In total, Jamala visited 11 different cities: Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Orlando.

“Don’t ask me if I had time to see the cities. Don’t expect photos with iconic places, because all I saw were airports, hotels, and concert venues. But the most important thing is that I saw people. Dozens of hours on the road and many thousands of kilometers behind. This is an important and pilot tour in this difficult time for the country.
But our strength is in unity!” Jamala said.

In addition to her songs, the artist also prepared interesting lots for the charity auctions she held during each concert. Among them were the collection “300 Poems” by Lina Kostenko signed by the author, a soccer ball signed by footballer Andriy Shevchenko, stamps signed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny and Waone, personal belongings of Jamala from various TV shows, music videos and many others. For example, one of her personal dresses, which was specially made for the “Solo” video, was sold at auction for $7,500.
“When I said that I was going on tour in America and would hold auctions, putting up some significant things for me: dresses, glasses, head jewelry, etc., I asked my friends to allocate lots for charity auctions there during my concerts, and everyone responded. We could say that the whole village was packing suitcases with lots,” Jamala said.
During the tour, the singer’s team managed to raise more than UAH 2 million to help Ukraine. According to Jamala, the money will be donated to various charitable foundations.
This year Jamala also released her solo album QIRIM (Crimea). It is a collection of 14 traditional Crimean Tatar songs, each of which was found by the singer in different parts of the peninsula. The QIRIM album was presented at the National Opera of Ukraine in Kyiv on May 5, and in Liverpool on May 11, together with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The history of each song, as well as the original text and its translation, can be found on the interactive website dedicated to QIRIM.
